James Wynne

Director of Music Ministries

James Wynne received his B.A. in 1973 from Montclair State College (University) in Music Education.  His primary instrument was organ and his secondary instrument was the trumpet.  He received his Master’s Degree in Educational Supervision from William Paterson University in 1981.  He was awarded the Rutgers University President’s Citation for Teaching Excellence in 1990, which enabled him to enroll in the M.A. program at Mason Gross School of the Arts, studying organ with Professor David Drinkwater.  Wynne also pursued the Doctor of Musical Arts in Education degree at Boston University.

Mr. Wynne is a life-long music educator.  He taught many different musical subjects in the Bergen County Technical Schools from 1973 until 1983.  He spent the remainder of his 45-year career teaching choral music and music technology at Jefferson Township High School.

Wynne began his church music career as a senior in high school in 1969.  He has enjoyed tenures as an organist/choir director in Hasbrouck Heights, River Edge, Pompton Lakes, Newton, Dover, Ridgewood – and now Mendham.  He is a recitalist, composer, arranger, conductor – but he also enjoys creative writing; he is the author of several published historic fictions.  He is also known for his skill as a lecturer on music and music history.  He is also currently working for Drew and William Paterson Universities as a Field Supervisor for emerging new music teachers.

Mr. Wynne has been married to his wife, Marlene, since 1974.  They have three adult sons: James, Jason and Justin – and four grandchildren: Oliver, Theodore, Eleanor and Lucy.
