Regional and National Ministries

Presbytery of Newton - Newton Presbytery’s purpose is to work for God’s Reign by connecting, governing and supporting its congregations and ministers as they experience God, grow in faithfulness and manifest, in word and deed, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As the regional governing body for 63 Presbyterian member churches in New Jersey's Morris, Sussex, Warren, and Hunterdon counties, they are one of 22 Presbyteries that make up the Synod of the Northeast of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Membership is comprised of the ministers of the member churches, together with an equal number of elders.

Officers and Staff conduct the business of the Presbytery, and Mission, Ministry, Nurture & Resources, Church Development & Redevelopment, and Youth Ministries programs are carried out by the Program Committees. Newton Presbytery has a number of resources available to member churches, their ministers, and congregants. For example, the Resource Center (located at the office at 390 Route 10 West, Randolph) contains many books, pamphlets, and videos that any Presbytery church member can borrow for up to a month at a time. Volunteer opportunities exist on numerous Presbytery committees. Visit the website at www.newtonpresbytery.org.

Protestant Community Centers, Inc/SCEEP – The Suburban Cultural Educational Enrichment Program (SCEEP) was established by Protestant Community Centers Inc., (PCCI) of Newark, NJ in 1971. SCEEP began at Hilltop Church in 1975. The program, which is held on Saturday mornings during the school year, brings approximately 15 children from Newark’s Dayton Street School to the Hilltop House where tutors and volunteers promote educational, emotional and spiritual growth. The goal of the program is to raise self-esteem, to motivate and to prevent students from dropping out of school. Volunteers and tutors come from the community, neighboring churches and Hilltop Church. Visit the PCCI website at www.cacofnj.org

Volunteers and supplies are always needed for the SCEEP program. Adult and high school tutors are needed from 10-11 a.m., approximately 25 Saturdays during the school year. Meal volunteers are needed to provide breakfast and lunch meals for about 15 students. Meal volunteers usually participate one Saturday morning a year. Guest speakers are also needed to provide the children with information on various careers and hobbies. Donations of school supplies and educational games are also needed.

You can make a real difference in a child’s life.  To volunteer and for further information contact Mission Liaison Caroline Jacobus at 973-543-6538.

Summer Mission Trip – Each summer, a group of youth from the Mendham area and adult leaders from Hilltop Church spend up to a week supporting an organization in need of hands-on help. We provide the labor for various construction and clean-up projects in support of a selected agency that works to help people who, on their own, are unable to meet their needs for safe and adequate shelter, clothing, food and basic well-being. This is done in a manner that maintains or improves a recipient's self worth and dignity. Simply put, our mission is to help those in need get a start on helping themselves. This is done through donations of time and money from within out congregation and community. There are 3 ways Hilltop Church members and their friends can be involved in mission trips. These include joining the trip, donating money or sometimes donating food. These trips not only help people in need, but provide participants with memories that will last a lifetime.  Past trips included support for Rural Community Action Ministry (RCAM) in Maine, The Meeting Ground in Maryland, Habitat for Humanity in Maine, and Holmes Presbyterian Camp in Holmes, NY.

For more information contact Mission Liaisons Joe Daley, 973-543-1922 or Lisa Lieb, 908-879-4086.

http://www.campjburg.org/images/mission1.jpgCamp Johnsonburg – The mission of the Johnsonburg Presbyterian Center is to provide a place apart where all people can experience God’s love within a welcoming Christian community. Established in 1959 to provide experiential Christian education in support of the Presbyterian Church in New Jersey, Johnsonburg today is a place where city kids meet country kids, where black and white discover common ground, where the rich and poor of means and spirit are valued equally, and where each is encouraged to take another vital step toward realizing oneness in Christ.

Hilltop Church supports the mission of the Johnsonburg Presbyterian Center, provides volunteers to help with camp maintenance, sponsors inner-city children and congregation children through camperships, and provides Board leadership.

For more information, contact Jeffrey Betz at 973-543-5557 or visit the Camp Jonhsonburg website at www.campjburg.org.

Mississippi Disaster Relief Mission – Last year, several Hilltop members journeyed to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi in November where they joined the Morristown Presbyterian Church's mission group to help rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
